How MailMeter Works

MailMeter captures messages through a connection to your email server (MAPI for Exchange - Notes API for Domino), indexes the messages into a SQL database, and stores the full message (or just Subject) and any attachments (single instanced - deduplicated) in compressed, encrypted, flat files in standard Windows folders called Archive Volumes (default of 4G in size) that MailMeter automatically creates and manages. MailMeter uses a single database for Compliance, Reporting, Investigative message capture and Storage Management.

All MailMeter applications are browser based solutions that are installed by default and activated with a license key.

MailMeter Deployment Flexibility

Single Server - MailMeter with SQL Server and Archive Volumes. Most small installations can easily accommodate everything on a single server.

Single Server - MailMeter with SQL Server Archive Volumes on separate server/NAS/SAN. The MailMeter Archive Volumes can be located on any device in your network. Archive Volumes can be split across different devices or moved to other locations – ask your MailMeter technical support specialist for details.

MailMeter and SQL Server on separate servers Archive Volumes on separate server/NAS/SAN. The SQL instance can be shared with other applications (however, this may have performance impact on other applications because depending on the amount of your email messages).

Multiple Email Servers Using a Single MailMeter Server - MailMeter can process mail from any number of email servers - located in the same datacenter or spread out across your network. You can reduce total email storage by taking advantage of MailMeter's single instance storage.

With MailMeter's Total Mailbox licensing, you can place multiple MailMeter servers in your network to correspond to remote locations without additional cost.
